KBC has a multi-layered structure of church leadership. This is not a hierarchy of government, but a structure based around functions and tasks. The three groups are as follows:
Ministry Team This is a group of specially called individuals who are set apart by God and supported by His people to “shepherd” God’s flock. Their primary work is to pastor and teach God’s people and to equip them for their own work of ministry. An introduction to each member of the ministry team is given on Page 6.
Elders’ Group The Elders of the church a group usually comprising of twelve men plus the members of the Ministry Team are considered to be spiritually mature individuals whose gifts have been recognised by the church and who have been appointed to fulfil certain tasks: - To act as a support group for the Ministry Team.
- To have a caring, counselling role among the membership.
- To facilitate the function of others within the body of Christ.
- To engage in vision building and possibility thinking.
- To oversee that God’s work goes in God’s direction.
The Elders, who usually meet monthly, are elected to serve for a period of five years when the membership has an opportunity to nominate a new team of Elders or re-elect those who are already serving.
Deacons’ Group The men and women in the Deacons Group are responsible for the practical, up-to-the-minute, needs of the church. Specifically, they:
- Support of the work of the Elders and the Ministry Team.
- Support the multiple ministries of the church; eg the regular organisations and activities.
- Manage the church’s financial and physical resources.
- Involved in the pastoral care of the church.
The Deacons, who usually meet monthly, are also elected to serve for a period of five years, similar to the Elders. The Elders and Deacons together form the Church Council who meet annually to discuss the budget for the year and at other times as necessary.
