| We all have a basic need of being cared for. Pastoral care is an important element of Church life. It contributes to growth within the Church as well as in personal experience. In addition, it results in God’s people being affirmed in their faith. Ian Birch, the Pastoral Minister, together with the Pastoral Worker, Kate Deacon, are responsible for the Pastoral Care Programme which has a number of elements to it. | | | Pastoral Care | | The Pastoral Minister and Pastoral Worker share an ongoing visitation programme, responding to needs and requests, but also seeking to maintain contact with the membership by routine calls. At any time, they are ready to respond to any request for help or encouragement. The Pastoral Care Teams are also available to offer assistance and, as they are aware of needs within the congregation, keep the Pastoral Minister and Worker aware of such situations. Ian and the pastoral worker can be contacted through the church office and are available on a Sunday after the church services. | | | Pastoral Areas | | The area covered by the church is divided into nine geographic areas, most of these being quite local, while a few reach out a bit wider. Anyone who regularly worships at KBC and those who become members are allocated to one of the nine areas according to their address. The Pastoral Care Teams are updated with names and addresses and any changes on a regular basis. | | | Pastoral Area Teams | | A number of Pastoral Care Teams keep a watchful eye on the members of the congregation as well as those regarded as adherents and newcomers to the Church. These teams are comprised of between 6 to 8 members from the church, including Elders and Deacons, who are selected for their commitment to and concern for, the well-being of all who are part of the life of the church. The Team members’ primary role is to be the ‘eyes and ears’ concerning people’s needs and, where appropriate, they will visit to give help and encouragement as part of the church’s care and assistance to spiritual ministry. From time to time, training sessions take place to develop the work and ministry of the Teams. | | | |
